Today I am doing an introductory video on the science of sleep, and specifically, the role that melatonin plays in that. Now there is quite a lot of research into sleep, the hormones that drive it, and how they work.

And we are looking at how we can harness that information through good nutrition and diet, to help people get the best sleep that their body can give them.

Did you know that inside your brain is a melatonin factory that turns protein in your diet, into melatonin, which is the hormone that gets you off to sleep, and helps keep you asleep. The trouble is when you make the melatonin, your body can’t store it, it only lasts a little over 20 minutes.

Do what happens if you do not make enough melatonin to keep you asleep all night?

To find out how this might be affecting you, and how you can use science and your diet to potentially improve your sleep, why not come in and talk to us at Sydenham Pharmacy.
